I can remember seeing the commercials for it in the summer of 2001, but I had heard that it sucked. So, I never saw it in theaters. My younger cousin said that she had seen it for her birthday, but I still didnt go and see it. Fast Forward to December, 2001, when Moulin Rouge came out on video. My parents rented it without telling me, but after they saw it, they said that they didnt really like it.
Well, fast forward to the very beginning of January 2002, and my friends and I decided to have ourselves a little movie marathon at my house. So, we went to the mall all day Saturday and then went back to my house. We were originally going to have Summer Catch, Bridget Jones and The Birds (I have a frightening phobia with birds). But, at the last minute, my friend Tiffany convinced us to get Moulin Rouge, as well. So, we got that one, too.
Anyways, so we watch Moulin Rouge. My friend, Madeline and I are laughing hysterically at Toulouse, the music, etc., all things freaky. We even laughed at *oh please forgive me* Ewans teeth!!! (They look really different in the movie than in real life!!) Then, at the end, we cried.. blah, blah, blah. I still wasnt hooked. So, Monday rolls around and I decide to listen to Moms Moulin Rouge CD. Its great! (DUH) I realize how beautiful Ewans voice is and then I went online and saw how beautiful Ewan was! I called my friend Madeline and said I decided I think hes really hot. His teeth are probably just bad for the movie. So, I tell her that Ill burn the CD for her and I bring it to her at school on Tuesday. (Where, we wont get into the details, but another long-time-obsessed-Moulin-Rouge-er and I sing the songs at lunch!)
Anyways, so, that night, my sister and I watch the whole thing again, because the day before I only watched snip-its of the film. Alright, so then, Wednesday, Madeline comes over and we watch the love parts of the movie while printing Ewan pictures off of the internet and gluing them into a note book, before going to church and then returning the video. So, now its Thursday and Im really not happy, I havent had my daily dose of Rouge. So my friends Kelli, Lisa, and I, along with Madeline, decide to watch Moulin Rouge at Kellis house. So, I rent the DVD so that I can take it home and watch the special features. So, we watch it and her dad keeps coming in and telling us how weird the movie is and how weird he thinks it is and Madeline and I are like NO! Its sooo good! Okay, then I go home and watch special features all day, then turn sad again when it has to go.
So, fast forward to Valentines Day. I ask my parents to get me Moulin Rouge for the occasion. Nope. Then, Easter comes. I ask if the Easter Bunny will bring me the glory that is.. Moulin Rouge. Nope. Okays, so up next is my birthday. What do I get? The Moulin Rouge poster, the VHS tape, the book, the shirt, etc, etc. Then, I end up buying the DVD with gift certificates. (Yes, I have both the tape and the DVD) So, ever since that day on the net, I have been surfing for Ewan and Moulin Rouge stuff. And, finally, I came up with enough ideas for my own site! And here I am today, with my love for Moulin Rouge growing everyday. A love that will live forever. The end.
